Ten Tips on How To Gain Outstanding Performance From Your Team Through Coaching and Mentoring

March 7th, 2010 by pacapao

Are you witnessing outstanding performances by your employees? If not, are you providing some form of feedback to your employees as to their level of performance and your satisfaction with their performance? Are you doing any coaching or mentoring with your employees?

For purposes of this article, I will presume that many of you are not providing feedback, coaching and/or mentoring of any kind or are doing so at a level that is not producing positive results. It is very important to know that you need to institute some form of an ongoing program to monitor, mentor and coach your staff on a regular basis if you want to have outstanding performance from them. The age-old argument that owners, managers and supervisors do not have time to mentor and coach and give feedback is dysfunctional and not acceptable. I strongly believe that the problems that occur from not coaching and mentoring will consume much more time than the time to coach and mentor. Furthermore, by not coaching and mentoring, there is a very strong probability that there will be more work for those who did not take the time to coach and mentor.

So, how do you go about this coaching and mentoring? Here are ten (10) tips from your strategic thinking business coach that should help you answer that question.

1. Gather information about your team members and learn about skill deficiencies, any confusion on assigned tasks, interests and aspirations, etc.

2. Listen to and hear what your team members say to you and pay attention to their body language also.

3. Communicate frequently to detect morale or other problems that cause stress in the workplace and diminish productivity and create negative attitudes.

4. Train your team members as individuals and as a team, after assessing the training needs.

5. Provide ongoing feedback on performance with praise, suggestions for improvement and corrective suggestions.

6. Create an environment for free and open exchange of ideas with your team.

7. View mistakes as learning opportunities and value the lessons learned.

8. Recognize improvement and accomplishments. Celebrate success!

9. Support team member’s initiatives to pursue additional training and other self-development opportunities.

10. Hire an outside professional coach to assist you in the development and implementation of your ongoing program.

Network Marketers - Stop Recruiting! Start Mentoring!

March 1st, 2010 by pacapao

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Getting started in your own network marketing business is the easy part. The hard part is bringing in that endless number of distributors and customers. The hard part isn’t getting the personalized website or your distributor number. The hard part is getting traffic to your site and adding other distributors to your business.

What I feel really slows the rookies down in network marketing is that they feel in order to grow their business they need to recruit… recruit… recruit! They want to get people “under them” and get them signed up as quickly as possible. They want to go from 1 partner to 100 partners in their first 6 months. They want their income to go from zero to $10,000 per month in no time… but the reality is, is that they need to stop focusing on recruiting and focus on sponsoring…

What do I mean by this? Well, think about when you were being signed up by your sponsor. Did you start your own network marketing business just because you wanted to be recruited? I don’t think so. You got started because you saw a way to create an income and create a lifestyle. You probably saw your sponsor as the person who had the knowledge to be able to help you.

Your sponsor didn’t recruit you. They sponsored you.

In order for you to recruit more you need to STOP focusing on recruiting and START focusing on helping your prospects get what they need.

Think of who makes the most money in your company… Is it the person who’s continuously replacing the distributors in their business, or is it the MENTOR who is duplicating their efforts by teaching his people what he/she knows.

Don’t focus totally on bringing on new people… Remember to train and mentor your new partners continuously and you’ll create a long-lasting, stable business. Be a mentor, not a recruiter.

Lyrics For Life - Scarred But Smarter

February 28th, 2010 by pacapao

Image : http://www.flickr.com

During the mid-1990’s I spent lots of time flying down the freeways of Atlanta. I learned that this was the home of tour veterans Drivin’ N Cryin’. Each trip into this metropolis found me packing my car with all of the Kevn Kinney inspired D n C material I owned. The music can really hook you if you are open to the attitude of these southern boys.

A Ted Nugent interview on WRIF-Detroit first led me to D n C. Kevn Kinney called into Ted’s show and they talked about life on the road, guitars, and the opening riff to the legendary song, Stranglehold. As Kevn signed off of the interview he advised Ted to “Turn it up or turn it off, Ted!” I remember thinking that this guy had some attitude to tell the Motor City Madman to turn it up. Ted is the king of the high volume assault. He claims to have once made “cows udders bulge” from 18 miles away during a late 70’s outdoor concert in Kansas City. From that moment on, I loved Kevn Kinney.

On one of my many trips through Atlanta, I really connected with the song “Scarred But Smarter”. I played it over and over and over. The lyrics and their infinite meaning jumped out at me like no other song ever had. As I reviewed adversities in my life over the past few years, I applied each experience to the song. Word for word, Kevn Kinney wrapped a blanket of comfort around me with his carefully chosen words of truth.

“I’m out of work, I’m out of hope. Of what should be of thee I spoke, Good times for the undeserved and bad times for the ones who work, Poor man, rich man, blind man, dead man, Hoped for more than they had all planned, Just then they suffered a serious blow as the real world cut the line they hold, Nobody said it would be fair, they warned you before you went out there, There’s always a chance to get restarted to a new world, new life, scarred but smarter.” Many times I’ve begged for a new start to life. Screaming out at all of the unfairness in our world, work settings, or relationships. The pain that cuts the deepest is when God takes one of our precious loved ones from us. At these times I have “hoped for more than they had all planned.” Praying and begging for the miracle of life to return was mirrored in, “just then they suffered a serious blow as the real world cut the line they hold.” Excruciating pain rips through my body as the unthinkable is a numbing reality. Totally in shock I vaguely hear my parents assuring me that, “nobody said it would be fair.” So true that statement is! When I think back to my parent’s advise many times during my childhood I realize, “they warned you before you went out there.” On my knees I prayed passionately to God without a response. As time heals life crushing blows the final line of the song brings strength and hope, “There’s always a chance to get restarted to a new world, new life, scarred but smarter.”

Everyone deserves a new start in life, especially if we learn perspective and gratitude through our pain. With much support and love I have thrived in the midst of adversity and truly become “scarred but smarter.”

Lessons Out of Africa - The Importance of Mentoring

February 26th, 2010 by pacapao

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Recently while working with a client in South Africa, I had the opportunity to go on safari in Kruger National Park. Surrounded by 2 million hectares of magnificent Africa, I heard many interesting stories. Two in particular were so intriguing, that I forgot where I was and started pondering what makes people successful.

The first story I heard was how the park contains far too many elephants, which has an adverse effect on the biodiversity of the park. Every few years, great controversy occurs when the park conducts a cull of elephants. The first of these culls, beginning back in 1966, created a problem that was more severe than too many elephants… lots of wild, angry and out of control elephants.

How did this happen? The elephants culled, were the older bull elephants - the elders of the herd. Back then, the zoologists had not realised that it was the elders who taught the younger elephants how to behave. Without role models, the elephants did not learn how to act towards other elephants or to their environment - to make the herd sustainable. With no guidance from the “old and bold”, the younger elephants did not know how to live and succeed in their environment.

The sad fact was these out of control youngsters became a danger to other elephants, animals and people, and even to themselves, and subsequently had to be killed. Unfortunately, the culling continues but the current approach keeps the herd whole or removes the herd in total. A sad but necessary evil to keep and protect the environment they live in for future generations.

The second fascinating narration I heard was how young Zulu tribesmen, as part of their initiation into manhood, spend time with the elders of their tribe. During this time, they gain wisdom and insight into Zulu life. Again, the elders are the ones who provide direction and guidance.

So surrounded by all the splendid flora and fauna I was compelled to think about how this applies to us in the modern world. At school, we learn a limited set of standard knowledge, but do we get the stuff that really matters? Do we receive the guidance needed from our elders? Do we have input from people who have “been there and done it”? This is not typically part of our culture.

Elephants are complex and intelligent creatures, but they do not possess a natural instinct on how to live and succeed in their environment, nor do people. We need to be taught how to be successful in the modern world, by people who are successful themselves. This is where mentoring and coaching comes into play.

Since mentoring and coaching are not ingrained in our culture, we can take one of two paths. The first is trial and error. We can learn as we go, building a base of experience needed to be successful in our own right. Many people take this path and get there but the majority of folks on this path never achieve their dreams.

The second “smarter” path is to find somebody who has been there before and ask them for guidance. They can take us around the pitfalls and show us the critical factors in achieving the success we seek.

Mentoring/coaching can be formal or informal. It can involve a structured weekly program designed to lead you through a development process so you become the person you need to become, to do the things you need to do, to be successful. Alternatively, the mentor/coach can act as a sounding board and a guide along your path. They may be with you a long time, a short time, cover one area of expertise or cover many areas - it all depends on your needs.

The use of a mentor/coach is one of the keys to success. Statistics show that only 5% of people achieve any level of financial/business success, proving more of us need that guidance from those who have walked the path before us.

February 23rd, 2010 by pacapao

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Mentoring For Free offers generic Network Marketing training that can be crossed over into any MLM Company. The Multi Level Marketing Industry is awesome. The issue however is that most Networkers don’t take the time to either train themselves properly, or they don’t have a competent upline even through they may be helpful. In this day and age you really have to understand and use a unique angle to get leads on the Internet, or you very well might be left with just scraps at the end of the day.

The main mentors on the Mentoring For Free website are Linda and Michael Dlouhy. Michael Dlouhy was mentored by Tom “Big Al” Schreiter and he was his key to success. This website to him is a way to pay back all the goodness the world has given him. But it wasn’t always this way for Michael. It took him 12 years to find the golden key.

The Mentoring For Free philosophy is to not recruit or sell at all. It is to simply build people. If you can build people they will in turn build your Network Marketing Business for you. Michael and Linda Dlouhy have been in Network Marketing now for 26 years since 1991. Each week they spend about 7-10 hours training people. They even train their competitors and teach them all their secrets.

The Mentoring For Free Program doesn’t teach competition but abundance. It’s a hard concept for many to grasp, but you have to understand when an Industry as massive as Network Marketing that does trillions of dollars per year worldwide exists, there’s room to make hundreds of thousands of millionaires and a lot more people than that financially independent. So if you can change your mindset this can also change your financial situation.

There are a lot of other very successful Network Marketing Mentors who will help you when you join the Mentoring For Free program. There are 24 to be exact. To join this program you are not required to purchase anything. However they do offer a Lead Generation System that currently sells for $19.95 per month. February 22nd, 2010 by pacapao

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In order to reach ratified air and become a millionaire, I highly recommend you find yourself a millionaire mentor. Don not beat around the bush trying to find ways to become wealthy, instead find a millionaire mentor.

Where do you find a millionaire mentor? Great question and I will address your important question.

One of the best ways to find a millionaire mentor is to take the direct approach. Identify someone in your sphere of influence and or local community, call them and ask to take them to lunch or to have a cup of coffee.

Perhaps you will contact a entrepreneur, doctor, lawyer, investment analyst, banker, or a CEO of a company. The bottom line is, there are a lot of millionaires and you simply have to take the initiative to schedule a meeting to network with and request they mentor you. It is understood it takes a team to become a millionaire. Ensure the first team member is a millionaire. Why?

Where are you trying to get to? Millionaire status is the correct answer.

There is no better way to become a millionaire than being mentored by one, because they have been where you are trying to go. What do you request of the millionaire mentor? After the millionaire accepts your request for mentorship, simply learn everything you can about being a millionaire. Take into consideration your values should align with your mentor and if they do not, I highly recommend you find a millionaire with similar values.

One of the first things you will learn about millionaires is they think differently. In other words, they thoroughly enjoy being rich and do not allow triviality to get in the way of what they are trying to achieve.

Limitations, setbacks and the quicksand of life are mere momentary obstacles waiting to be overcome by persistence and perseverance. The key consideration to keep in mind is how millionaires think.

Millionaires who lose all of their money know how to become millionaires again and again because they know how to do it. Millionaires have the knowledge, wisdom, and skills to get knocked down financially and get back up to reclaim what it meant for them.

Make no mistake about it, your quickest path to wealth is finding a millionaire with similar values as yours and learning everything you can learn from them. You will get to the next level of your financial independence by finding a millionaire mentor.

Forex Mentor

February 20th, 2010 by pacapao

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Finding a forex mentor who teaches a highly effective yet simple to understand forex trading method is a crucial factor to getting started on the right track in the forex trading world. Forex trading is a business; as such you should learn the skills necessary to succeed at this business from someone who is an experienced professional in the field. You would not learn how to become a professional chef from someone working in a fast food restaurant, like wise you cannot learn to become a professional forex trader from someone who has not attained the level of success that you yourself are trying to achieve. Price action trading is a time tested method to trade the forex market with, when taught from the perspective of a forex mentor who has used this method with consistent success for years and who has a natural flare for teaching, learning this method will be one of the most relevant and thus profitable things you do when learning to trade.

Learning to trade the forex market is usually a process riddled with frustration and wasted money on trading courses and systems that do little more than confuse you with lagging indicator methods that claim big results with little personal effort on your behalf. The truth is that learning to trade the forex market does take a lot of effort on your behalf but that effort can be made drastically easier and less frustrating if you employ a forex mentor to assist you in learning how to trade effectively. Forex mentors have been where you are at; they know the frustration and the confusion that results from the vast web of information available on the internet regarding forex trading. One of the biggest advantages of learning from a forex mentor is that they have already figured out a profitable way to trade the market and learning the way they trade will save you precious time and money while searching for an effective method.

Successful forex trading is not something that is easily achieved. It is possible to find a method that works for you and figure out how to trade on your own, but the process will be made much easier by a forex mentor. There are numerous psychological trading mistakes that every trader makes if they do not learn from someone who has already made them. Most people think they are smart enough to figure out how to successfully trade the forex market without any outside assistance. Unfortunately for them however, intelligence plays very little role in trading success. In fact, many of the best and most famous traders in the world never even finished college. What is most important is concentrating on your own emotions and finding a trading method like price action analysis that is not overly complicated or a potential distraction from the focus you need to put on your mind set.

Allow a genuine and reputable forex mentor to guide you on your forex trading journey and you will wonder what you ever did without one. The knowledge, experience, and insight that a professional forex mentor has are priceless tools to the aspiring forex trader. Learning to trade from a real, live, person is infinitely more effective that buying some black box system or signal service that does little more than give you the proverbial fish. Learn to fish for yourself from a forex mentor and you will discover how to profit for a lifetime in the forex currency market.

Characteristics of a Mentor

February 18th, 2010 by pacapao

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The more that businesses start looking into mentoring and the advantages that it offers, the more that they are going to want to focus on the characteristics of a mentor. In order to develop a mentoring program, it’s important that you are bringing the right people on board to get the program started.

Not everyone can be a great mentor, after all. The most successful mentors are going to be those people who want to share their experiences, their knowledge, the skills and the solutions that they’ve discovered for common issues that come up on the job. Those who are going to be fantastic with being a mentor will have an innate understanding that sharing what they know with a new hire puts them in a position of power rather than someone who has the sense that knowledge is power.

In order for someone to be a great mentor, he or she needs to be comfortable with the work that they are doing. A great mentor sees himself or herself as a part of a team, and is consistently committed to making a difference, to being dependable and reliable - especially when that means that it’s a good idea to consider another way of doing things, a method that might be more logical or intuitive. In other words, mentors need to be willing to do more than just teach their experiences, they must be willing to learn from others around them - including their mentees.

While mentors lead by example, not every leader is a mentor. Some of the best leaders lead by instructing others, by engaging those who follow them and by expecting others to simply embrace their way of doing things. Great mentors, on the other hand, lead by showing that there’s always more to be learned. Mentors lead from within their team not from outside of it.

Of course, mentoring programs do foster an environment in which others can become mentors. Some of the best mentoring training comes simply from being mentored and recognizing the benefits of mentoring programs. By working with a great mentor who is inspiring, reliable and consistent, those who are looking to develop mentoring skills will be able to get a sense of whether or not they’re interested in becoming a mentor and what they may need to work on in themselves to become better at their jobs, more effective in their lives and to, in time, grow to mentor others.

The most important characteristic that mentors share is the willingness to lead by example and to focus on the ways in which differences will make the company stronger. Some of the best mentors are going to find that those who they have mentored move beyond them in the company or become better at the job than the mentor himself or herself. There is a strength that is a part of being a mentor that not everyone has; however, developing those strengths is something that will benefit the mentor, the mentee and the organization overall.

How to Successfully Choose Your Internet Marketing Mentor?

February 12th, 2010 by pacapao

Image : http://www.flickr.com

A mentor is a person, whether male or female, who shares their knowledge and experience with you and guide you in the right direction. In turn, you accept their knowledge, advice, feedback and analysis on how to achieve your targets.

Mentoring takes two forms online, Paid Mentoring and Free Mentoring.

Paid mentoring is when you pay a well known successful internet marketer to receive mentoring and guidance.

They basically take you under their wing; give you instructions, assignments, and an action plan. It is extremely important that you take action and complete the tasks assigned to you in the specified time. They check your work, offer advice, and monitor your progress.

However, you need to be extremely careful before committing yourself to a paid mentoring program. Choosing paid mentoring is as important as choosing your accountant or solicitor. Here are some tips to consider when choosing paid mentoring:

1. Word of mouth, just because you are new online it doesn’t mean you can’t ask around for recommendations. You can join some internet marketing forums and ask for recommendations. Do your own online research to find out more about the mentoring program you are willing to take on. Ask to get in contact with their previous customers, and check the mentors reputation.

2. Communications: Find out how often your mentor will communicate with you. Do you get one to one mentoring? Is the mentoring done through emails, phone calls or meetings? Do you feel this is sufficient for you, or you will need more communication?

3. Accessibility: How easy it is for you to get advice when you need it? Will they respond to your questions?

Free mentoring is available online and takes different forms. You can get free mentoring even from some of the top marketing gurus. Although it may not be one to one, it is an excellent way to get yourself on the right track, and keep you from losing your shirt.

There are different ways to get free mentoring, the most common ones are:

1. Newsletter subscription: You can choose to subscribe freely to an experts newsletter and get their tips and views for free.

2. Forums and Networks: You can join internet marketing forums. Learn from the experts, ask for advice and you will get excellent guidance.

3. Master mind groups: So many internet marketers form a master mind group, where they join forces and share knowledge with each other.

You may have the knowledge and experience in web design but have poor copy writing skills. You could join forces with a copy writer who lacks web design knowledge, you both exchange knowledge and advice Got the picture? Both of you may have another partner who is an expert in another area of internet marketing. Forming master mind groups is awesome. However it does take time and effort to choose the right people with the right knowledge and experience.
